Jacksonville Zoo A WILD Idea!

Guests won’t even see this one coming: brunch with a view and some of Jacksonville’s wildest guests. Jacksonville zoo is a favorite place for locals. And the zoo typically gives back to its moms with special discounts and events on Mother’s Day.

Our out of town guests always rank the Jacksonville zoo high on their list of things to do. A favorite is the recently added Land of the Tiger exhibit. It’s appropriately located on the ‘far east’ side of the zoo in the Asian loop.

You can get up close and personal with the endangered Sumatran and Malayan tigers in this exhibit that is truly like no other. Almost like being in the middle of the tigers’ natural habitat. There are tigers roaming overhead, tigers in front, and tigers to the side in this network of elevated trails that weaves through the exhibit. You can watch them cool off in their own little pools and bubbling brooks. You can even witness some feeding time frenzy. (Yikes). Seriously, you haven’t lived until you’ve heard a lion roar right in front of you! Oh, and the underwater viewing areas? Yes, this exhibit has other residents, too! Like the warty pigs (who doesn’t want to see those?) and otters.

Just outside the Land of the Tiger are some breathtaking Asian gardens with the Trout River as the perfect backdrop. You’ll want to check out the lotus pool, Bamboo Mist Forest and the weeping tree bridge along the way.

There’s much more, especially for the kids. The kid favorite has to be the 4,000-square-foot Splash Ground in the Play Park. Mom can rest with a shaved ice treat while kids cool off, groom the pygmy goats, or play with Magellanic penguins! For a small extra fee, kids can feed giraffes or pet the stingrays in Stingray Bay.

Of course, no trip to the Jacksonville Zoo would be complete without a stroll through the Range of the Jaguar, a national award-winning exhibit, we might add! If you’re into fruit bats and snakes, we’ve got those too. And be sure to pause for a photo with the anteaters.

With so much to do it’s hard to imagine getting around without the train. Hop onboard for a ride to the next destination. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a wild escape from an ordinary day!
