The Brick of Avondale
Located just southwest of Downtown Jacksonville, is a picture perfect neighborhood that goes by the name of Avondale. This area is known for their historic preservation and has been designated the largest local historic district by the City of Jacksonville. Primarily designed as a residential area, Avondale also has its very own downtown that all the locals of Jacksonville truly treasure. Known for its stately, Mediterranean revival style homes, its architecture is breathtaking and is the perfect neighborhood to grab a bit to eat at a fine dining restaurant, shop and stroll around. This neighborhood is the most extensively planned community Jacksonville has ever seen. Avondale is truly an idealistic place that appeals to all.
The Brick of Avondale
While you are out strolling Avondale’s romantic streets that are lined with old oak trees, boutiques and elegant homes, you will most likely catch a sent that will strike your fancy. This lovely smell of fresh seared prime rib and filet mignon will call to you, make your mouth water and stomach grumble. Follow the scent and you will find yourself in front of The Brick of Avondale or lovingly referred to simply as “The Brick” by locals. Located in this history district of Avondale, this gorgeous restaurant is a must see and must eat at. Its modern take on American cuisine and eclectic food selections, along with its striking interior of exposed brick walls and beautiful stained glass windows is how it sets itself apart from other resturants. On a beautiful day you can take a seat out in their charming patio area that gives you front row to people watch those who stroll by you and enjoy the historic surroundings of Avondale. In its 11th year, the Brick is most known for its warm and fun atmosphere and even more so for their delicious dishes.
Events & Tidbits
The Brick is open daily for lunch and dinner every day of the year except on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is open even earlier for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Be sure to order a Bloody Mary because they make a bloody good one! Equal parts delicious and spicy! Not only do they make great Bloody Marys but they also have an extensive wine list and a full bar.
The Brick also has ladies night on Wednesdays from 6pm to 10pm and Happy Hour occurs Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm. For a perfect date night or even just a night out with friends be sure to come for the live music on Friday and Saturday nights. They are always featuring awesome local jazz bands.
The Downtown of Avondale
After a full stomach at The Brick, you may need to walk off some of your eats. Avondale is the perfect place to take that after dinner stroll. There is so much to see and visit while you here. There are 45 store fronts on the St. Johns Avenue and some of the shops date back to the 1920s when the area was first developed. These small scale boutiques were made to blend with the residential neighborhood when the community was first designed. Because of this, it is truly a treat to walk around and see these beautiful buildings. They have a variety of different shops that will strike anyone’s fancy. These shops carter to the upscale shopper so be prepared to be amazed with the wonderful and luxurious things you will see. From fine art galleries to antiques to clothing shops, there are so many things to see and buy! If you are looking for on point and on trend style clothing, you must visit the J.Ashley Boutique or Petal. If you have a trendy baby or looking to buy some unique baby items for someone’s new arrival, Hobby Horse is a must visit. They sell everything you could possibly need for a baby. From the nursery décor to clothes, toys and furniture - they have everything you could think of. Between gorgeous and fun clothing to high end diaper bags and unique beautiful trinkets, you won’t be able to leave the store without purchasing something. But if you are really looking to splurge, maybe reward yourself for a great first weeks New Year’s resolutions than stop in at Let Them Eat Cake. If you still plan on sticking to your diet than avoid this place at all costs. You won’t be able leave without tasting their sinfully delicious red velvet cake or their spectacular mousse cupcakes. This place is dangerous!
